To Tuck Or Not To Tuck That Is the Question!

You see it every day everywhere, the long-oversized Golf shirt, Polo style shirt, Hawaiian shirts, sport shirts, hanging out sometimes way past a man’s hips posing as a short dress. A Polo tucked into a pair of pleated chino’s…well you get the picture. A great deal of men just does not know there is a rule for tucking and not tucking, and by following these rules their going to look a whole lot better.

This idea first led me to think about fit but that’s a whole separate subject which I will get back to. Onto the subject on tucking or not tucking and when to do it or not to, it’s not that hard to remember a few simple rules on the subject. First things first let’s make sure your buying the right size. Get measured professionally most department stores will have someone to help you with this. If your shopping at stores like Target, you will have to do this yourself at home and have someone help you.  You want to know your chest size, so you want to measure around your chest which will also encompass your upper Lats, the tape should be snug not tight. This is the number you need when purchasing a Polo, Golf, Hawaiian, sport, and casual short sleeve shirts will almost always give measurement information like 30/32 Small, 34/36 Medium and so forth buy for this size, do not size up because you want to be comfortable the manufactures have already done this for you it’s called ease. Now on to tucking, T-shirts and polos and any hem (the sewn edge at the bottom of the shirt) that is straight across are meant to be worn out, if a shirt has a sloping hem like a dress shirt it is meant to be tucked.  Exception to the rule: if it’s a Golf style which is a straight hem also, this is meant to be tucked and the longer length is to help it from pulling out and keeping it in place. Easy right? Your chest measurement, straight hem, curved hem Three rules your good to go!
